Welcome to AFP

Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) acquired the rights to organize athletics in Pakistan from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) in 1951. The mission of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan is to promote and develop the sport of athletics in Pakistan in accordance with the IAAF rules. The first election to form a representative Federation was held in 1962. Justice A.R. Cornelius was elected as its President while Mr. A.U. Zafar as its first Secretary. This body was also granted affiliation by the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA). Later the name of this Athletic Body was changed and presently it is referred to as Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP). The current regime was elected on 21st September 2013. Maj Gen (R) Muhammad Akram Sahi, HI(M), SI(M) was elected as President while Mr. Muhammad Zafar elected as Secretary General AFP.


The role of AFP is as under:

1. To encourage, promote, develop, regulate and control the sport of Athletics in Pakistan
2. To follow and enforce the Rules and Regulations of International Association of Athletics Federations, Asian Athletics Association and South Asian Association of Athletics Federations
3. To promote and facilitate affiliated Associations / Organizations
4. To coordinate and control Athletics activities by holding meets / competitions, organizing National Senior and Junior Athletics Championships (Men & Women) at its own or under the auspices of any of its Member Units
5. To select athletes and officials to represent Pakistan in athletic Programmes and competitions to be held within the country and abroad
6. To establish Training Camps, organize talent hunt schemes and Promotional Programmes for expanding and raising standard of Athletics in Pakistan.
7. To communicate with the IAAF, AAA, SAAAF, POA, PSB, other Government Bodies and NGOs regarding issues of Athletics when ever required
8. To establish Planning and Development wing for enhancing capacity of Athletes and Athletics in Pakistan
9. To ensure the observance of World Anti-Doping Code of WADA duly approved by the IOC and POA and fight against doping and use of substances and procedures prohibited by the IOC or the International Association of Athletics Federations
10. To discourage and take appropriate action against violence, discrimination on grounds of race, religion, creed, political affiliation and sex etc
11. To extend invitations to foreign athletes and officials for participation in National Athletics Championships and other Meets in Pakistan
12. To encourage women participation in athletics, create Women Associations / Women Wings at National and Provincial levels and induct Women in the General Council / Executive Committee of the Federation in accordance with the directives of IOC and POA
13. To create Athletes Commission with Terms of Reference in line with the Constitution of POA and IAAF
14. To establish Medical and Science Commission for Anti-Doping and for improving performance of the Athletes, respectively
15. To create, educate, standardize and regulate structures for Technical Officials, Coaches, master Athletes and Administrators under Executive Committee of the Federation
16. To launch Youth Development Programmes at grass-root levels
17. To do all other acts and things as deemed to be necessary or conducive to carry out Aims, Objectives and Role of the Federation
18. To raise funds for the Federation from the following sources:
      a) Through sponsorships
      b) Grants from Government of Pakistan
      c) Grants from Provincial Governments
      d) Grants from International Agencies
      e) Grants from Local Bodies
      f) Donations from Humanitarians
      g) Income from any activity organized by the Federation
      h) Grants from the Pakistan Sports Board
      i) Income from property purchased, acquired by the Federation
      j) Income from any other lawful sources not specified in the above
